KRASUSKY KONSTANTIN ADAMOVICH
(1867–1937)
Krasusky Konstantin Adamovich was born on September 14, 1967 in a town of Zaraysk of Moscow region. In 1891 he graduated from Petersburg University. In 1929 he was invited to Azerbaijan. In 1935–1937 he was an organizer and first director of the Institute of Chemistry of Azerbaijan branch of AS USSR. Determination of the method of combining hpochlorous acid with olefins, study of izomerization reactions going on with participation of organic oxides, issues of investigating an influence of ammonia and amines on organic oxides lay down the foundations of K.Krasusky’s scientific activity. He discovered that when amines combine with asymmetric oxides, hydrogen joins with the few hydrogen containing points and as a result secondary aminoalcohol generates. This process is widely used in organic chemistry as K.Krasusky method.
MAMMADAMIN EFENDY
In 1937–1941 professor of Azerbaijan branch of AS of USSR Mammadamin Efendy was director of the institute of Chemistry of Azerbaijan branch of AS of USSR. The main scientific activity of M.Efendy is studying mineral resources with the purpose of their usage in chemical industry of the republic:
- study of composition and structure of alunites, possibility of their enrichment;
- chemical processing of chromites for obtaining natrium bichromate – main product for production of mineral dyes.
ALIYEV SHIKHBALA ABULFAZ OGLU
(1910–1960)
Aliyev Shikhbala Abulfaz oglu was born on March 28, 1910 in Binagadi village of Baku governorate. In 1931 he graduated from Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. From 1935 he was head of the department at Institute of Chemistry of Azerbaijan branch of USSR AS, in 1941–1943 he was a director. Under his direction alkylation of low molecular hydrocarbons with unsaturated hydrocarbons by aluminium chloride has been studied. One of the main research directions was the synthesis of one of the important monomers allylchloride and its derivatives.
MAMMADOV SHAMKHAL ALIMAMMAD OGLU
(1910–1984)
Mammadov Shamkhal Alimammad oglu was born on October 10, 1910 in Fuzuli city. In 1932 he graduated from Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. In 1937–1943 – was head of the laboratory at the Institute of Chemistry of Azerbaijan branch of AS of USSR, in 1943–1949 – was director of the same institute. Sh.Mammadov’s main research activity refers to the synthesis and research of glycol ethers with biological properties. He developed tens of methods for synthesis of glycol ethers and up to 5000 substances were produced using these methods, and were registered in USA Chemicals Index.
EFENDIYEV HEYDAR KHALIL OGLU
(1907–1967)
Efendiyev Heydar Khalil oglu was born on July 1, 1907 in Sheki. In 1937 he graduated from the faculty of nature-mathematics of Baku State University. In 1941–1949 he headed the laboratory at the Institute of Chemistry of AS of Azerbaijan SSR, from 1949–1967 he a was director of the same Institute. The basic scientific works of H.Efendiyev were dedicated to geochemistry of rare metals. He investigated the regularities of spreading the rare and radioactive elements in mineral and oil layers of waters in rocks of various type in the republic. He worked out a new scheme of mineralogy and geochemistry of hydrothermal pyrites complex in the northern-eastern part of the Lesser Caucasus and he directed the study of geochemistry of new type pyrites-polymetal deposits (Filizchay, Katekh, Katsdagh and etc.) found on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus. H.Efendiyev was one of the founders of geochemistry science in the republic.
ORUJOVA IZZET MIRZAGHA GIZI
(1909–1983)
Orujova Izzet Mirzagha gizi was born on September 16, 1909 in Baku. In 1932 she graduated from Azerbaijan Industrial University. In 1967–1971 she was a director of the Institute of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry of AS of Azerbaijan SSR. I.Orujova’s research activity was mainly dedicated to the increase of the quality and production of lubricating oils. She took an active part in elaboration of technology for producing new kinds of lubricating oils, improving the processes of their purification, making them paraffinless, as well in application of new mixtures of lubricating oils based on alkyl phenols and sulfates
(1908–1975)
Nagiev Murtuza Fatulla oglu was born on May 5, 1908 in a city of Sarab of the South Azerbaijan. In 1935 he graduated from Azerbaijan Industrial Institute. In 1952 he was elected academician of AS of Azerbaijan SSR. In 1945–1956 he was head of the department at the Petroleum Institute of AS of Azerbaijan SSR, in 1959–1962 was director of the Institute of Petrochemical Processes of AS of Azerbaijan, in 1965–1975 – was founder and director of the Institute of Theoretical Problems of Chemical Technology of AS of Azerbaijan. In 1956–1957 he was academician-secretary of Physical and technical departments of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan SSR, in 1957–1959 he was the first vice-president, in 1959–1962 – academician-secretary of Chemical Sciences Department, and in 1962–1967 he was academician-secretary of AS of Azerbaijan. M.Nagiev is a founder of theory of recycling processes in chemistry and chemical technology. His theory of recycling processes enables the intensification of chemical technology processes by the most efficient way. M.Nagiev’s concept of global optimization, namely system approach to optimization of complex CTE gave initial impulse for modeling of chemical processes.
ZULFUGAROV ZULFUGAR HUSEYNGULU OGLU
(1913–1992)
Zulfugarov Zulfugar Huseyngulu oglu was born on December 3, 1913 in Sheki city. In 1936 he graduated from Azerbaijan Industrial Institute. In 1971–1983 he was director of the Institute of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry of AS of Azerbaijan. Scientific activity of Z.Zulfugarov was directed to the use of mineral raw of the republic (alumosilicates, zeolites, bentonite clay and others. By improving the preparation methods of a catalyst and adsorbent of this type he studied the interaction of physical and chemical properties, nature of interrelations between chemical nature of surfaces and adsorption capacity, found out the correlation regularities.
SHAKHTAKHTINSKY TOGRUL NEMET OGLU
(1925–2010)
Shakhtakhtinsky Togrul Nemat oglu was born on October 22, 1925 in Baku. In 1949 he graduated from Azerbaijan Industrial Institute. In 1975–2002 he was director of the Institute of Theoretical Problems of Chemical Technology of AS of Azerbaijan SSR, in 2002–2010 he was director of the Institute of Chemical Problems of ANAS. T.Shakhtakhtinsky’s main research activity refers to the investigation of kinetics and mechanism of chemical reactions, modeling and optimization of chemical processes. Under his direction important practical processes of oxidation and oxidizing ammonolysis were developed, scientific bases of their optimum management were modeled and developed, general principles of “aging” dynamics of catalyst for separate processes were found, and electrochemical camera of burning was prepared.
RIZAYEV RAMIZ HASANGULU OGLU
(1939)
Rizayev Ramiz Hasangulu oglu was born on November 2, 1939 in Nakhchivan. In 1962 he graduated from Baku State University. In 1985–2002 he was director of the Institute of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. R.Rizayev’s research activities refer mainly to a sphere of heterogeneous catalysis. He has investigated in detail theoretical and practical aspects of mild and conjugated oxidizing reactions of hydrocarbons and their functional derivatives; created the high-performance catalysts for reactions of oxidizing ammonolysis of alkyl benzols and their chlorous derivatives and worked out the scientific bases of these processes.
ALIYEV AGADADASH MAHMUD OGLU
(1940)
Aliyev Agadadash Mahmud oglu was born on October 16, 1940 in Baku. In 1958 he graduated from department of mechanics of Azerbaijan Industrial Institute. In 2011–2014 he was director of the Institute of Chemical Problems named after academician M.Nagiyev. He is a founder of theory of mathematical modeling and optimization of non-stationary catalytic processes. His main scientific activity - the study of kinetics and mechanism of chemical reactions, development of scientific bases of synthesis of high-performance multifunctional metal-zeolite catalysts for multistage reactions are his main scientific activity. Under A.Aliyev’s direction mathematical models of several high tonnage industrial and new catalytic processes have been developed, optimum operating modes were calculated on their bases and applied in many petrochemical plants and design institutes.
